20 U.S. PREMIERES OF FILMS FROM 12 COUNTRIES, ROMANTIC SHORT FILM COMPETITION FOR EUROPEAN & LOCAL STUDENTS AT EVENT

Miami, May 1st - 9th,  2010

Some 15 independent first-run foreign feature films, starring such international stars as Sandrine Kimberlain, Zabou Breitman, Ronit Elkabetz, Marta Etura  and representing 12 countries, will make their premieres on U.S. soil at the Fourth Annual “Romance in a Can” Film Festival, presented in Puerto Rico and Miami, at indoor and outdoor venues.

The 7-day event – the only festival of romantic films in the U.S. – will also include a tribute to the legendary German actress, Marlene Dietrich and a short film competition for film students from Europe as well as local Puerto Rican and Miami universities and high schools.

RIAC – established by Red Chemistry Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the work of independent European filmmakers – pairs screenings of feature-length European films making their domestic debuts and the short film competition with an array of special events, while raising funds for youth arts programs.  The award-winning short film will be purchased by Eurocinema and Atlantic Broadband for airing on its TV channel.

Among the films that will be shown this coming year will be: “7 minutes” (from Spain), “Excentricities of a blond girl” (from Portugal), “At a glance” and “ the case of the unfaithful Klara and EX (from Italy), “Something to tell you” and “nothing personnal” (from France); “Jaffa” (from Israel) with Ms.Elkabetz; “Memory” (Germany) and “Little Moscow” (from Poland), each directed by independent filmmakers who want to premier their films in the U.S.   Other countries being represented at the festival are Hungary (“Pin Prick’) and Serbia (“Here and there”).

“Preserving romance during Valentine’s week, far away from the war and violence, is my vision for the film festival, said Isabelle Lambert, executive director of Red Chemistry.  “Bringing something uplifting and refreshing, classy and glamorous – a program of comedies and artsy feature films from so many countries – should draw a very diverse audience in the very romantic town of Miami.”
